Location: Michigan - Grand Rapids

Ideal Candidate:

10+ to 15 years of experience
Management Experience Required – No
Minimum Education – Bachelor’s Degree

This position will lead the development of electric motor solutions through in-house design and development and through external customers.

Provide technical leadership and oversight for new product development of ac and dc motors.

The person will plan concurrent development programs for several motors, including in-house and external development.

Manage and control requirements using a requirements management tool such as DOORS.

Perform mechanical, electrical and magnetic design and analysis using engineering CAD tools to meet function, performance and environmental requirements.

Develop motor design specifications, verification specifications and test equipment specifications.

Apply engineering processes and standards throughout the development process.

Work with multi-disciplinary development teams including offshore resources.

Manage assigned projects to schedule and budget.

- Provide technical oversight to suppliers and offshore resources.

- Develop fractional horse-power to 30+ horse-power brushed and brushless dc motors, permanent magnet synchronous machines, ac induction and switched reluctance motors depending upon requirements of the application.

- Lead cost-out efforts. Manage full cycle development of motors from requirements through qualification and in-service support.

Job Qualifications/Educational Requirements:

 

- Qualified candidates will have a BS in Mechanical Engineering or BSEE.

- MSME or MSEE preferred with minimum of 10 years experience in designing and developing motors.

- Qualifications in related technical disciplines such as physics will also be considered.

Candidates will have hands-on domain expertise in at least 5 of the following:

- Brushed dc motor design

- Brushless dc motor design

- AC induction motor design

- AC switched reluctance motor design

- Permanent magnet synchronous machine design

- Supplier development

- Mechanical design for motors including thermal and stress analysis

- Design to cost

- GD&T

- Verification and Qualification testing

Experience in 5 of the following:

Brushed dc motor design
Brushless dc motor design
AC induction motor design
 

 

AC switched reluctance motor design
Permanent magnet synchronous machine design
Supplier development
Mechanical design for motors including thermal and stress analysis
Design to cost
